Powering Europe
with safe, efficient, and sustainable sodium-ion battery technology.
About the Project
Advanced Technology for stationary Energy storage systems in NA-ion (ATENA+) is driving the next generation of energy storage by showcasing safe, sustainable, and long-life performance Sodium-Ion Battery (SIB) technology, fully developed and manufactured in Europe. This cutting-edge solution aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the European battery industry, offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional lithium-ion batteries. By leveraging a multidisciplinary consortium of leading research institutions and top-tier industry players, ATENA+ will deliver scalable, eco-friendly energy storage systems tailored for both stationary and transport applications, supporting Europe’s transition towards a resilient and green energy future.
Key Objectives
- Sustainable Innovation: Developing sodium-ion batteries using eco-friendly, European-sourced materials.
- Long-life Performance: Enhancing energy density, safety, and cost-efficiency for battery energy storage systems (BESS).
- European Supply Chain: Building a robust, local supply chain to reduce dependence on external resources.
- Scalability: Demonstrating technology from pre-industrial to real-world applications.
Project Impact
- Strengthening Europe’s Energy Resilience
- Reducing Environmental Impact with Sustainable Materials
- Accelerating Post-Lithium Technology Adoption
- Fostering Cross-Border Industrial Collaboration
