ATENA+ video explores how the project is overcoming Europe’s battery challenges

A new ATENA+ video looks at the key barriers to sodium-ion battery deployment, and how the project is helping Europe overcome them.

ATENA+ has released a new video on the main barriers to large-scale sodium-ion battery deployment, and how the project is addressing them.

Europe’s energy transition requires safe, sustainable and affordable energy storage. ATENA+ replaces lithium and cobalt with sodium, iron and manganese, reducing supply risks tied to critical materials. The project is also scaling up from 10 Ah pouch cells to 80 Ah prismatic cells and 2.5 kWh modules, demonstrating pre-industrial readiness, while PFAS- and NMP-free processes and eco-designed materials strengthen Europe’s competitiveness on the global stage.

The technology is validated against international safety and certification standards, supporting the development of future regulation. ATENA+ also promotes electrode recovery and closed-loop direct recycling to build a fully European and compliant value chain.
